Enabling Technologies and Robotic-Assisted Surgery - Changing the Future of Healthcare

Robotic-assisted surgery (RAS) has been identified as an emerging medical technology with the potential to help standardise surgical procedures and enable minimally invasive surgery (MIS). Clinical benefits of RAS, therefore, depend on the surgical application of the technology, benefits of RAS-enabled MIS may include smaller incisions, decreased blood loss, shorter hospital stays, and lower incidence of some surgical complications, as compared to open surgery. In highly complex spine procedures, RAS improves accuracy of screw placement.

SPEAKER:

Dr Mohammed Awad is a UK and Australian-trained Neurosurgeon. He is a full member of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and The Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, and is a leader and global educator in surgeries on brain tumours, complex spinal (robotic) surgery, computer and ultrasound guided surgery and complex pain surgeries amongst many others.

Introducing Loop-X Mobile Imaging Robot in Action

With Loop-XTM – the first and only mobile intraoperative robotic 2D/3D imaging system – Brainlab is setting a new standard in image guided surgery by introducing robotics to high quality 2D and 3D reinvented imaging technology.

Loop-X redefines how scanner and navigation work together and automates imaging steps with smart, robotic movements to accurately follow the surgical procedure. From level finding, auto-driven parking and imaging positions, to non-isocentric, patient tailored imaging and intelligent positioning for verification shots, Loop-X automation reduces interaction with the scanner, allowing the surgeon to focus on the surgical site.
