Professor Peter Cuckow

Professor Cuckow qualified at St Thomas's in 1984 and did his early surgical training in the UK, where he worked with Robert Whitaker and developed an interest in Urology and Paediatric Urology. Given the opportunity to work in the USA, he spent time with Jay Grossfeld and Rick Rink in Indianapolis and then return to the UK for a period of research in Cambridge before formally training as a Paediatric Surgeon in Leeds. Appointed as a Senior Registrar in Urology with Philip Ransley at GOSH in 1996, he became a consultant there and at the Institute of Urology in Londin in 1998.

As a reconstructive Paediatric Urologist, Professor Cuckow's main focus has been the management of Hypospadias and Bladder Exstrophy, although he also has interests in Antenatal Hydronephrosis, Posterior Urethral Valves, Neuropathic Bladder and DSD.

Professor Cuckow is a salaried Professor in Aarhus University in Denmark and regularly visits Norway, Greece and Iraq to teach and operate. 


Dr Rafael Gosalbez

Dr Gosalbez is the Director of the Pediatric Urology Division at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital in Miami and voluntary Associate Professor of Urology and Pediatrics at the Miller School of Medicine, University of Miami. He is a diplomat of the American Board of Urology with a sub-specialty certificate in Pediatric Urology and a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. Dr Gosalbez belongs to multiple national and international urologic societies and is a well known reconstructive surgeon with multiple publications in the field.


Mr Philip Ransley

Mr Philip Ransley M.A., M.B., B.Chir., F.R.C.S., F.R.C.S.(Ed-Hon), F.A.A.P.(Hon), S.I.Mr Philip Ransley is a retired Paediatric Urologist who worked for more than 30 years at The Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children in London having been trained and served an apprenticeship under Sir David Innes Williams. However, since retirement he has been active all over the world especially in South Asia and South America. He has been instrumental in setting up Paediatric Urology in Pakistan especially at The Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation in Karachi where he continues to work on a regular basis. These efforts were recognised by The President and Government of Pakistan with the award of the ‘Sitara-i-Imtiaz’ in 2010.He was President of the European Society for Paediatric Urology from 1996-2000 and has received many honours from around the world including the St Peter’s medal from BAUS and the gold medal in Paediatric Urology from the American Academy of Pediatrics. Apart from his paediatric urological expertise he is well known for his love of astronomy and in particular chasing eclipses of the sun which have led him to explore the high Karakorums, canoe the Zambesi river, cross the Simpson desert and camp on Krakatoa. Between working journeys, he now resides in Italy on the shores of Lake Como from where the next eclipse party is planned.
